The Country Club at DC Ranch is a member-owned, nationally acclaimed private golf and country club poised prominently near the McDowell Mountains that features a championship caliber golf course displaying the design artistry of Tom Lehman and John Fought, a stunning 45,000 square-foot Ranch Hacienda Clubhouse, six tennis courts, pool complex and fully appointed fitness facility. The Club is currently in the second phase of a master plan improvement project which is scheduled to be completed in Spring of 2019. The Club currently consists of 585 active family memberships with revenues of approximately $11,500,000 annually. The Club employs approximately 120 employees in the height of season (October – May), with approximately 80 being on the payroll on a year round basis. The Club operates under the General Manager/Chief Operating Officer governance model with a seven (7) member Board of Directors and five standing committees (Finance, Golf & Grounds, House, Membership and Facilities Planning).

The Golf Course Superintendent will report to the Vice President of Golf Operations and Agronomy and will have direct interaction with the General Manager on a regular basis.
Position Profile: Golf Course Superintendent
The ideal candidate will be a visionary leader who will possess great attention to quality and detail and an undeniable focus on cultivating and delivering an exceptional member golfing experience. The Golf Course Superintendent is responsible for the management of all maintenance activities of the Golf Course and surrounding grounds.
This department head position is responsible for the successful operation of the Golf Course Maintenance Department and Clubhouse Grounds Maintenance. This includes providing agronomic direction to maintain the golf course at the highest quality possible at all times following Club standards for the healthy growth of the golf course grasses, trees, and other applicable plant materials.
Programs for turf/grass, material and chemical maintenance and asset management are critical to the success of this role along with a demonstrated proficiency in water management practices. This position prepares an annual budget and achieves these financial goals throughout the year, through proper forecasting, expense controls and labor management.
The Superintendent works closely with the General Manager on capital improvement expansion projects.
The Golf Course Superintendent is aligned with the VP of Golf Operations in the playability of the golf course, strategic and master planning, communication and other key areas affecting the daily operation of the golf department. Other areas of high level engagement with the VP of Golf Operations include:
-Committee and Board Functions
-Tournament Operations
-Communication affecting Membership
This position is also responsible for hiring, managing, training, and scheduling all personnel; financial management; and other management responsibilities as assigned including ensuring all assigned maintenance tasks are carried out correctly, efficiently and safely, delegating daily work assignments, overseeing and working with a crew of employees on those assignments. In addition, it is expected that this position develop a long range agronomy and golf course master plan along with key Club figures which would include the replacement plans for a future irrigation system enhancement among other capital projects.
Responsibilities
The Golf Course Superintendent will be responsible for:
-All aspects of golf maintenance, agronomy, equipment, and maintenance staff.
-Works closely with the General Manager and VP of Golf Operations to ensure standards are being met, form business strategies, and run an efficient property.
-Directs and participates in the construction and maintenance of the grounds.
- Oversee the care and maintenance of turfgrass, bunkers, landscaping, and the entire property.
-Plan the daily and weekly schedule for the staff. Maximize labor dollars.
-Facilitate chemical and fertilizer applications. A valid spray license is essential.
-Protect the fleet of golf course equipment and golf carts to ensure that all pieces are being maintained correctly and used safely and efficiently.
-Present a quality championship golf course product with a focus on details.
-Work within an operating budget and create a yearly agronomic plan.
-Knowledge of Cool Season and Warm Season turf maintenance.
-Ensuring proper maintenance and cleanliness of the Club premises at all times
Minimum Education and Qualifications:
· A (4) four year college degree or equivalent education/experience is preferred as well as active involvement with the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America. Although not a requirement, the Certified Golf Course Superintendent (CGCS) designation or someone working towards this goal is looked upon as a positive.
· Must have a working knowledge of turf maintenance techniques for golf courses, including precision mowing and greens keeping, grounds and facilities maintenance techniques, minor repair of equipment, landscape maintenance and irrigation systems
· Must hold or be willing to obtain a current State of Arizona Commercial Supervisory Pesticide license
· Intermediate computer skills in Word, Excel and Outlook
· Excellent written and verbal communication skills (Spanish speaking a plus)
· Team building and motivational skills are essential
· Hands on management style while being able to lead and manage a team of 25-30 co-workers
· Excellent organizational and communication skills
