DIRECTOR OF GOLF COURSE MAINTENANCE - POSITION OVERVIEW

 

The Director of Golf Course Maintenance is responsible for consistently providing exceptional golfing conditions and the management of golf course maintenance and landscape operations ensuring that objectives, policies, programs and fiscal practices are implemented, administered and maintained.  Work cooperatively with other departmental managers to ensure an exceptional golf experience for our members.  The DGCM reports to the GM/COO and supervises the Golf Course Superintendent, Golf Course Assistant Superintendent, Golf Course Mechanics, and Grounds Crew.

 

Key attributes, characteristics, experiences, and style of the successful new leader include:

·        High Golf IQ with a history of providing extraordinary golfing conditions

·        Strong agronomic skills and stays current with new developments in golf course maintenance

·        Exceptionally detail oriented

·        Proven experience developing golf course maintenance teams and mentoring team members

·        A history of excellent relationships with prior GMs and Golf Professionals

·        Coordinates golf and maintenance activities with the Head Golf Professional in an attempt to maximize golf course play without disturbing maintenance projects

·        An effective communicator with other department heads, committee and members

·        Supervise the maintenance and all construction projects of the golf course

·        A history of sound irrigation management and irrigation system maintenance

·        Experience maintaining preserve areas or other sensitive sites

·        Strong budgeting and financial oversight skills with a working knowledge of zero-based budgeting

·        Supervise the servicing and repair of turf grass maintenance equipment.

·        Experienced with Capital Expenditure planning for course maintenance equipment and course amenities

·        Communicates regularly with other members of FRCC’s management team to discuss activities, goals and plans.

·        Oversee maintenance operations of the entire golf course including Clubhouse grounds, landscaping, Driving Range, nursery, open spaces, wooded areas, unused acreage and areas outside the perimeter fence, and maintenance equipment

·        Maintain appropriate records of pesticides and fertilizers

·        Participate in continuing educational opportunities

·        Establish and administer safety programs, monitor the adherence to safety procedures

·        Ensure compliance with operating guidelines pertaining to state and federal laws, along with government rules, regulations, and licenses

·        Responsible to ensure the organization, security, and cleanliness of the maintenance building, inventory, and equipment

·        Establish employee uniforms policy, ensuring employees wear clean uniforms

·        Promotes management and member and guest satisfaction by professionally, courteously and diplomatically communicating activities, goals, plans, while receiving input in the same manner

·        Attends weekly staff meetings as required

·        Is an active member of the Golf Course Superintendents Association and possess a current state certificate or license as a pesticide applicator

 

CANDIDATE QUALIFICATIONS

 

A minimum of five years as a golf course superintendent.

 

EDUCATIONAL AND CERTIFICATION QUALIFICATIONS

 

A Bachelor’s Degree from a four-year university or college is highly desirable, preferably in Golf Course Maintenance, horticulture, plant, and soil sciences.

 

SALARY AND BENEFITS

 

Salary is open and commensurate with qualifications and experience.  The Club, along with the typical senior staff benefits, offers an excellent bonus and benefit package.
