HALLBROOK COUNTRY CLUB

MISSION STATEMENT:

HALLBROOK IS KANSAS CITY’S PREMIERE GOLF AND COUNTRY CLUB EXPERIENCE.

The single most important event in the establishment of Hallbrook Country Club occurred in 1927 when Joyce C. Hall acquired a 41-acre farm at 110th Street and State Line Road. Joyce Hall founded the largest greeting card company in the world, Hallmark Cards Inc., widely known and respected. He built the large white Georgian-style house that still overlooks the golf course in 1930, raised his family and lived there until his death in 1982.

As the Kansas City suburbs continued their race to the south, the Hall farm became the most desirable property for development in the area. In the mid 1980’s, the Hall family announced that the farm would become an upscale residential development with a golf course.

Tom Fazio was selected to be the golf course architect, and the property for the golf course was selected first, after which the residential lots were plotted. His charge was to respect the natural terrain and preserve as much of the landscape as possible. Construction started in 1986, and the golf course was opened for play in June 1988 with Don Hall hitting the first drive. At that time, based upon the USGA rating system, the golf course was the second most difficult course in the United States. Hallbrook’s course is consistently rated as one of the top golf courses in Kansas.

In January 1988, Hallbrook Farms Country Club was formed as a private golf, tennis and social club. On July 1, 1989 Halbrook’s tennis and swimming pool pavilion opened. Consistent with the Hall family philosophy, the facilities were first-rate. The clubhouse opened Memorial Day weekend in 1990. And on December 31, 1993 the ownership of the Club was turned over to the members, and the name was changed to Hallbrook Country Club.

In the thirty-years of operations, Hallbrook Country Club by all measurers has been tremendously successful. It is a gathering place for friends and families, a place for recreation, learning new skills and recharging one’s spirit. About seven hundred families are members of the Club.

Over the years some of the facilities have been replaced and others remodeled or improved. But all with the objective of providing the finest family-oriented facilities, programs and services for the

satisfaction of the members. This can be seen with the state-of-the-art tennis, fitness and pool pavilion. Here members work-out and play tennis all year round. One former junior tennis player competed at Wimbledon, the U. S. Open and the Australian Open. During the summer, the pool is home to the swim and dive team of more than 200 children, as well as recreational swimmers and families.

Hallbrook’s beautiful and renowned golf course is believed by many to be the finest golf course in the area. It has hosted various golf tournaments. These include the Watson Challenge (an invitational tournament initiated by the legendary professional golfer Tom Watson to determine the best golfer in the area), the Kansas Amateur Tournament and qualifying rounds for the United States Open.

Since the opening of Hallbrook Country Club one constant that the members would agree upon is that the Club has produced many meaningful and lasting friendships. In this sense, the Club might be the modern-day equivalent of a neighborhood
