DIRECTOR OF GOLF COURSE OPERATIONS AT WOODFIELD COUNTRY CLUB

 

Woodfield Country Club is looking for a Director of Golf Course Operations (DGCO) that is successfully managing warm season grasses and experienced with regrassing and renovation. The DGCO will be a strong, energetic, communicative, detail oriented team leader with a passion for the game of golf and providing premiere golfing conditions.

Located in Boca Raton, Florida, Woodfield's resort-style Club, with its magnificent grounds and central location in the community, provides easy access for residents. The Club is a family-oriented full service private equity country club. The Club's commitment is to create a sense of community among its members by providing the highest quality goods, services and facilities for enjoyment at all levels.

 

The 830-acre gated site has 20 individual neighborhoods and was designed so that each community has its own identity, separated from its neighbor by sparkling lakes and the meandering holes of the Joe Lee designed championship course, which was redesigned by Bob Cupp in 2002. The golf course will test you, while maintaining complete playability for the entire membership. The dynamic layout features rolling terrain, manicured fairways and smaller greens. With an overall yardage of 7,000 yards from the championship tee and a spectacular water feature to negotiate on the approach to the final hole, the course will provide lasting memories for players of all levels.

 

Club amenities include an 18-hole championship golf course, a nationally recognized tennis program, expansive lagoon-style swimming pool complex, along with a comprehensive fitness center, spa/salon, retail operations and much more. A dedicated Children's Clubhouse offers a Game Room for teens and Kids Korner playroom for youngsters. The 97,000 square foot Clubhouse is under an extensive renovation and will offer luxury restaurants, men's and ladies' card rooms, banquet and lounge features, a comprehensive golf center, along with exclusive ballroom and meeting spaces.

JOB DESCRIPTION

 

At the Woodfield Country Club, the Director of Golf Course Operations (DGCO) reports directly to the General Manager/COO. The DGCO will lead and manage his/her department to ensure superb golfing conditions throughout the golfing season. He/She is responsible for all day-to-day operations of the Club's golf course and golf course landscaping.  The DGCO will play a central role in Regrassing/Renovation plan and implementation.

 

Frequent, open and transparent communication with the General Manager/COO, Director of Golf, and Golf Chair is required. The DGCO is expected to lead the golf course maintenance team as well as providing information, recommendations, and leadership to the GM/COO and Golf Committee to provide superior golfing conditions.

 

The DGCO is expected to routinely play the course to ensure that it is consistently in excellent condition and has a high level of detailing. Continuing education and staying at the forefront of research and technology are necessary for success. In addition, the DGCO will provide creative leadership and foster a culture of continuing education and development of future turf professionals. The DGCO must have a natural style of "sincere engagement" with members and staff along with a love of the game of golf and a passion for surpassing membership course conditioning expectations.

 

INITIAL AREAS OF FOCUS

 

·         Evaluate the course conditions and develop an action plan (within 60 days) for the summer maintenance program

·         Develop Standard Operating Procedures

·         Develop team training and evaluation systems

·         Review soil tests and necessary nutritional inputs to all areas

·         Raise level of detailing on the course

·         Evaluate the Regrassing/Renovation plans

 

CANDIDATE QUALIFICATIONS

 

The ideal candidate will be a Superintendent with a minimum of five years' experience at a golf course known for providing exceptional golf course conditioning.

  • Successful experience with TifEagle greens
  • Experience providing smooth, fast greens on a daily basis
  • Proactive, high energy leader, a team builder

·         Strong observational skills and detail oriented

  • Strong relationship builder with a history of excellent relations with their Golf Chairman, Golf Professional, and General Manager/COO
  • Confident, take charge leader, both with team and committee
  • Strong budget management and forecasting (zero based) skills
  • Excellent communication skills with both club and team members
  • Experience with Regrassing/Renovation

·         Highly organized

·         A creative turf manager with strong agronomic skills-stays current with advances in turf technology, irrigation management, and equipment

·         Concise and direct

·         Passion for the job

EDUCATIONAL AND CERTIFICATION QUALIFICATIONS

A degree in turf management or related field of study is required. Certification is preferred.

Salary is open and commensurate with qualifications and experience. The club, along with the typical (GCSAA) benefits, offers an excellent bonus and benefit package.
