Duties:

·        Ability to perform all aspects of field maintenance including but, not limited to, mowing, fertilizing, and all associated baseball field and landscape maintenance of the Cubs spring training complex.

·        Coordinate with baseball operations to provide daily support as needed and ensure staff and material resources are allocated appropriately.

·        Procure grounds supplies to support field maintenance needs in accordance to plan.

·        Report to the Director any observed/perceived issues with irrigation system deficiencies and/or irrigation programming.  Perform and/or lead crew members with all troubleshooting and repair of the irrigation system within the Cubs spring training complex.

·        Operate and maintain all facility and grounds equipment in a safe manner.  Train and supervise grounds staff to ensure all grounds equipment is being utilized in a safe, productive, and non-destructive manner.

·        Obtain/maintain State of Arizona Office of Pest Management pesticide applicators certification prior to employment.

·        Perform and/or assist with the supervision all chemical/fertilizer calibrations and applications.  Ensure that all applications are performed in accordance with EPA/OSHA regulations and the pesticide label.  Maintain pesticide report logs.

·        Lead hiring efforts for seasonal and part-time groundskeeper positions.  Review qualifications, interview, and complete hires in coordination with HR.

·        Assist the Director with the recruitment and hiring of full-time groundskeeper positions.  Provide input and recommend candidates for final review. 

·        Assist the Director with the supervision, training, and evaluation of full time grounds keeping staff.

·        Develop weekly work schedules for all grounds staff. Ensure all baseball ops and special events are adequately supported by grounds employees.  Submit schedule to the Director in a timely manner for final approval.

·        Assist with daily, weekly, and long term job/project assignments and prioritization.  Maintain a daily log of field maintenance activities.

·        Lead grounds maintenance staff team meetings.

·        Maintain and submit timesheets for all non-exempt grounds staff utilizing ABI software.  Ensure timesheets are submitted accurately and in a timely manner to payroll in Chicago.

·        Provide input on annual budget needs and coordinate with the Director the procurement of specified grounds maintenance supplies according to parameters established in the annual budget.

·        Perform routine safety inspections and repair of related facility equipment including, but not limited to: safety screens, nets, cages, benches, fencing, and backstops.

Salary:

$45,000 + Depending On Experience

Requirements:

·        A.S. Degree in Turfgrass Management (or related field) and a minimum of four (4) years-experience in professional sports field maintenance and/or golf course maintenance.

·        1 year supervisory experience.

·        Maintain State of Arizona Office of Pest Management pesticide applicators certification. 

·        Valid AZ Drivers' license upon hire.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

·        B.S. Degree in Turfgrass Management (or related field).

·        Experience/familiarity with preventative maintenance procedures for Turf Equipment as specified by the equipment manufacturer and/or Turf Equipment Maintenance Certification.

·        Experience performing reel mower unit setup (reel to bedknife adjustment, height of cut adjustment, etc.), repair, and maintenance.
