Tonto Verde Golf Club, an award-winning private golf club nestled in the beautiful Sonoran Desert, is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Assistant Golf Course Superintendent to join our team. POSITION OVERVIEW
As the Assistant Golf Course Superintendent, you will play a key role in the daily operations of the golf course maintenance team. You will assist in the management of the golf course grounds, ensure they are maintained to the highest standards, and help lead and mentor a team of skilled professionals. The ideal candidate is dedicated to excellence, possesses strong leadership abilities, and has a deep understanding of agronomy and turf management.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Assist the Golf Course Superintendents / Director of Agronomy in the overall management of the course’s maintenance program, including course conditioning, irrigation management, fertilization, pest control, and budgeting.
  • Supervise and train maintenance staff to ensure efficient operations and high-quality work.
  • Maintain excellent communication with club leadership, staff, and members regarding course conditions and upcoming projects.
  • Manage daily course setup and maintenance tasks to ensure the best possible playing conditions.
  • Oversee and assist with the operation and maintenance of the course’s irrigation systems, including troubleshooting and repair.
  • Assist with long-term planning and implementation of agronomic strategies to enhance turf and landscape health.
  • Monitor and maintain equipment to ensure proper operation and safety.
  • Assist with budgeting and cost control for materials, supplies, and labor.
  • Ensure compliance with environmental regulations and sustainability practices.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Degree in Turf Management, Agronomy, Horticulture, or a related field preferred; equivalent experience in golf course maintenance will be considered.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in golf course maintenance, with at least 2 years in a supervisory role.
  • Strong knowledge of turfgrass management, irrigation systems, and pest control.
  • Proven ability to lead and motivate a team in a fast-paced, service-oriented environment.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work early mornings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
  • A passion for golf and commitment to maintaining exceptional course conditions.
