ANNOUNCEMENT OF EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY TURF AND IRRIGATION SPECIALIST Pay Range: 57 Pay Range: $17.87 to $25.02 DOE/Q plus benefits FLSA Status: Non-exempt – eligible for overtime Candidate of choice must pass pre-employment drug test and criminal Background check. Qualifications: Education and/or experience equivalent to High School diploma and 4 years full-time athletic field or golf course irrigation repair and maintenance, athletic field or golf course agronomy, horticulture, sports turf management, and water conservation practices. Must be able to learn and operate a variety of small and large equipment, and possess (or obtain within 6 months of hire) a Class B Commercial Drivers License and Arizona State Applicators license (Turf and Ornamental & Right of Way Categories). Must possess (or complete within one year) the Backflow Certification. Must pass pre-employment drug testing and criminal background check. Essential Duties: Maintain Rain Master Oasis Irrigation System and controllers or equivalent, establishes schedules for/and monitor all park irrigation via Rain Master Oasis Irrigation System to ensure proper functioning, install and repair irrigation systems as needed; perform soil moisture content testing; perform or assist in scheduled preventative maintenance and emergency repair of irrigation systems such as water line breaks and broken irrigation heads; troubleshoot central controller and field controller. Establishes, performs, and monitors schedules for mowing, aerifying, top dressing, turf seeding, fertilizing and the application of pre-emergent, post emergent, herbicide, and insecticide. Installs new irrigation systems as needed; assists other staff in Division (I.e. Parks, lakes, trails, landscaping, open space, and special events) as needed. Assists with plumbing projects including winterizing and recharging drinking fountains and drip systems. Knowledge of: · Basic electricity, hydraulics, computers and record keeping · Irrigation system installation, repair, and maintenance · Rain Master Oasis Irrigation System or equivalent knowledgeable · Operation of a variety of heavy and light equipment and vehicles · Grounds keeping and landscaping maintenance practices and procedures · Supervisory methods and techniques · Hazard and Safety precautions associated with park irrigation maintenance · OSHA safety standards and practices Skill In: · Installing, maintaining, and repairing Rain Master Oasis Irrigation System or equivalent · Utilizing public relations techniques in responding to inquiries and complaints · Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with State, federal, and other local officials, elected officials, subordinate staff, and City residents Ability to: · Work cooperatively with City employees and the public · Produce written documents with clearly organized thoughts using proper sentence construction, punctuation and grammar · Work in a variety of weather conditions with exposure to the elements · Learn job related material through oral instruction, observation, reading, or classroom setting · Work safely without presenting a direct threat to self or others Physical and Visual Ability: sufficient to effectively and safely perform required duties and to safely operate required equipment and city vehicles as needed. Must be in good health and physical condition, and capable of working outdoors in all weather conditions with exposure to elements. Must be able to lift 75 pounds, perform repetitive lifting, stooping, bending, and twisting. Hearing and Speaking Ability: sufficient to clearly, concisely and effectively communicate in English on person, or a group setting, over the telephone, by radio, or e-mail.
