GROUNDS SUPERINTENDENT

Full Time

 

SALARY RANGE: $44,720 - $63,949.60 Annualized                  

 

JOB LOCATION:  Grounds                            

 

JOB SUMMARY: Supervises grounds maintenance activities including but not limited to; mowing, fertilizing, aerifying, planning, verticutting, irrigating, weed control and over-seeding for all RCSC centers and Sun Bowl properties.   Responsible for department planning, budgeting, purchasing, scheduling, and overseeing Grounds maintenance activities. Responsible for timely ordering of budgeted parts, supplies and equipment.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS: 

·        Associate’s degree in Turf Grass Management, Horticulture, Agronomy or related field OR

·        Formal Training combined with minimum two years-experience in Golf Turf maintenance and maintenance experience with large recreation areas, and/or large outdoor athletic complexes. Artificial turf maintenance experience also helpful.

·        Minimum of one-year of supervisory experience.

Knowledge of: 

·        Methods, standards, safety practices, chemicals, tools, and equipment used in the care and maintenance of general Grounds Areas.

·        Bermuda turf species used on lawn areas and the fertilizers and chemicals used to promote growth and control pests and diseases.

·        Forms and procedures used in administering a turf management program.

·        Operation of irrigation system and high pressure pumps.

Ability to:

·        Plan, schedule, and supervise the work of irrigation and maintenance employees.

·        Manage department budget within approved costs.

·        Prepare estimates of materials and supplies.

·        Analyze condition of soils, plants, trees, and turf and correct unhealthy conditions.

·        Determine irrigation needs.

·        Perform moderate physical labor in a variety of weather and working conditions.

·        Establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, cardholders and the general public.

·        Communicate effectively in oral and written form.

·        Continue education as turf grass management techniques are refined and improved.

·        Possession of or the ability to obtain a State of Arizona Restricted Use Pesticide Certification within six (6) months of employment date.

·        Lift up to 35 pounds and assists others with items over that weight.

·        Possess and maintain a valid State of Arizona driver’s license.
