Position: Equipment Manager

Facility: Western Skies Golf Club

Requirements:

  • The equipment manager should be well-organized, prepared, and thorough, with a technical, yet creative mind. The ability to multi-task, yet be adaptable and communicate in an ever-changing, fluid environment is essential.

 

  • This individual should be team-oriented with an approachable demeanor that allows them to work well and communicate with all members of the grounds department and club employees from other departments. Will represents the superintendent, grounds department and club in a professional manner.

 

  • This person should possess the professional/business skills to develop and maintain excellent relationships with all vendors/distributors and salesperson’s essential to an effective, smooth running equipment maintenance and facility management operation.

 

  • The equipment manager will need to be flexible since they will be required to work long hours, weekends, holidays, and special events.
  • This person should have a basic understanding of the game of golf.

 

  • The ability to communicate mechanical/technical information in an easy-to-understand way is important.

 

  • A valid driver’s license is required.

Duties:

  • Equipment manager will maintain mowing equipment that produces a championship caliber quality of cut on all playing surfaces.

 

  • Candidate will need to gain excellent working knowledge of all facets of golf course equipment, light and heavy equipment and related vehicles and their maintenance, including:

1.    2-cycle, 4-cycle, gasoline, diesel and electric engines and motors.

2.    Hydraulic systems and pumps.

3.    Electrical systems of all golf course equipment and vehicles.

4.    Proper sharpening techniques (grinding) for reels, bed knives, and rotary mower blades.

5.    Ability to properly adjust reel-to-bedknife and height-of-cut on reel mowers.

 

  • Will develop and implement a comprehensive preventative maintenance program that greatly reduces or eliminates any equipment down time.

 

  • The equipment manager must ensure that the maintenance facility is clean, well-organized and safe at all times.

 

  • Establish and maintain a complete equipment inventory.

 

  • Keep accurate repair records as specified by the superintendent.

 

  • Develop and maintain an organized filing system of all equipment operator’s manuals, parts manuals, schematic/mechanical diagrams and operator training manuals and materials.

 

  • This individual should have basic computer skills.

 

  • Will initiate a hazardous material disposal program as it pertains to equipment maintenance and facility management. (oil, anti-freeze, etc.)

 

  • In conjunction with the superintendent, management, or other assigned individual, the equipment manager will participate in training new staff members in the proper operation of designated equipment.

 

  • The equipment manager should be prepared to make on-course (in the field) repairs. These repairs may need to be made in difficult circumstances (i.e., inclement weather, difficult locations, etc.)

 

  • The equipment manager should be able to lift objects weighing 50-80 lbs.

 

  • They should also be prepared to make regular on-course inspection of cutting units and equipment to ensure optimum performance.

 

  • This individual, with management approval and within budget parameters, should develop and maintain an intelligent parts inventory.

 

  • In conjunction with the golf course superintendent and management, develop and implement a schedule for servicing and overhauling (if needed) of the entire equipment fleet. (This may also include the club’s golf cart fleet.)

 

  • Will need to gain fabrication skills (welding, plasma cutting, etc.).

 

  • The equipment manager will be expected to provide his expert, professional opinion as it pertains to equipment leases/purchases. These thoughts may need to be documented for appropriate business presentations.

 

  • The equipment manager should stay up to date with current golf course equipment maintenance techniques and procedures.

Salary: Competitive, commensurate upon experience.
