ABOUT THE ARIZONA GOLF ASSOCIATION:

 

The Arizona Golf Association (AGA), which was founded in 1923, is a not-for-profit 501(c)(4) association that serves as the official governing body of amateur golf in Arizona. What started as a small group of golfers who got together to run the annual Amateur Championship has grown to an association of more than 700 men’s and women’s clubs, serving 90,000+ individual members. Today, the AGA is an organization directed by amateur golfers passionately dedicated to promoting the game of golf and providing valuable benefits and services to its members.

 

POSITION OVERVIEW:

 

The Head of Brand oversees the long-term strategies for AGA brand, developing key partners, membership growth and satisfaction, communication oversight, advertising, sponsorship, and ensuring robust and consistent brand equities for the AGA. This includes leadership for the functional areas of Marketing, Communications, and Advertising/Sponsorship, as well as serving on the Senior Leadership team. The role fluctuates between strategy and execution – with strong emphasis on branding, communication, and coaching. Experience at high-growth B2C companies and ownership of all areas of marketing (service marketing, content marketing, branding, paid digital, marketing analytics and website/SEO, and research) are required for success. 

 

PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

·       Manage the AGA brand and evaluate ways to strengthen and grow it, ensure unified brand positioning exists for all member/club communications, acquisition campaigns, and all levels of the organization, and build a network of reliable external agency partners. This includes leading and managing the following tenets of brand health:

o   BRAND CORE: Defining the purpose, vision, and values of the brand.

o   BRAND POSITIONING: Defining our target audience, performing market research, and setting “awareness goals” for the organization.

o   BRAND PERSONA: Creating a brand personality, voice and set of assets to introduce through a rebranding campaign.

·       Supervise the marketing, communications teams and brand operations including 2 direct reports, 4 total employees as well as any internships that may be assigned to the departments. Set long-term and near-term goals to deliver growth strategies and build a culture of accountability.

·       Create and implement annual marketing plans for the AGA, its member clubs, including budget oversight, upside testing and leveraging data to optimize spending.

·       Oversee AGA membership process, including retention, satisfaction, and acquisition initiatives/campaigns as well as streamlined billing processes.

·       Leverage membership satisfaction data and lead additional insight research to continually improve communications to drive participation, benefit relevance and attract new members across the AGA.

·       Supervise all advertising policies for AGA publications and develop new vehicles and sponsorships to attract advertising partners.

·       Promote participation of member clubs through targeted outreach and officer engagement.

·       Regularly evaluate department policies to develop or modify best practices and future plans.

·       Role includes enterprise-wide influence on delivering and improving people, systems, and programming.

·       Develops annual Brand department budget and monitors revenue and expenses.

·       Support safe work habits and a safe working environment at all times.

·       Other duties as assigned, including professional development.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & EXPERIENCE:

 

·       Bachelor’s Degree in a Marketing or Business-related field.

·       Strong marketing, strategic thinking, project management, and consumer research skills.

·       Proven ability to manage and mentor a high performing team.

·       Demonstrated ability to develop effective business strategies based on data, intuition, and strong cost-benefit/financial analyses.

·       Demonstrated ability to manage and strengthen a brand.

·       Experience implementing campaigns and customer/membership acquisition programs.

·       Superior project management and communication skills.

·       Ability to analyze and integrate processes, systems, and information to deliver innovative solutions.

·       Advanced knowledge of various computer software programs including Microsoft Office suite, Google Drive suite, CRM (HubSpot), website, and SEO. Any experience with golf related programs like Golf Nations, Golf Genius, GHIN Connect a plus.

·       High level of attention to detail, and ability to handle several tasks simultaneously.

·       Ability to work well in a team-oriented work environment.

·       Data-based decision making.

·       Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills.

·       Interest or passion for golf recommended. 

 

 

WORK SCHEDULE AND REQUIREMENTS:

 

·       Monday to Friday, typically 8am-5pm, with some nights and weekends required infrequently.

·       Position based at AGA office in Scottsdale, AZ; “hybrid” work options available. 

·       Continuously required and to stand and walk.

·       The employee is required to occasionally lift 15 pounds.

Annually, performance standards will be reviewed and updated to reflect any additional critical tasks required of this position.
