The City of Tucson's Parks and Recreation Department is seeking highly motivated individuals to perform skilled work at the journey level on City park irrigation systems and to provide guidance and direction to irrigation staff members. The work involves performance of a variety of tasks including, but not limited to installing, maintaining, repairing and servicing park irrigation systems and equipment. This position is subject to on-call service and may work some weekends and/or holidays.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES MAY INCLUDE:

·  Researches, engineers and designs irrigation and/or plumbing systems and equipment for the purpose of ensuring the availability and proper operation of services and systems; reviews and revises plans, oversees plumbing and irrigation installations, and plans and reviews site inspections.

·  Upgrades, repairs and maintains plumbing systems and all park irrigation systems, equipment and controllers, including related electric components by running tests, inspecting and replacing parts, identifying maintenance needs, and flushing out systems.

·  Tests and inspects for leaks, maintains potable and reclaimed water systems, and conducts bluestaking.

·  Tests, repairs, and maintains backflow devices assuring compliance with best practices and procedures and with all applicable federal, state and local codes.

·  Identifies efficient practices to reduce and conserve water usage.

·  Effectively uses computers and electrical control units to automate irrigation and manage work through electronic work order systems.

·  Operates pick-up, backhoe, front end loader, trencher and various hand and power tools.

·  Performs containment and abatement of asbestos in accordance with outlined procedures when the job requires.

·  Provides guidance, direction, and training to irrigation staff members.

·  Communicates effectively with supervisors, coworkers, and the public both verbally and in writing.

·  Prepares and maintains a variety of records and reports related to work and maintenance.

·  Maintains parts and supplies inventory, responsible for purchasing in accordance with City policies and procedures and within budgetary constraints.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

·  High school diploma or GED plus six month post-high school training in plumbing.

·  Two years paid journey-level work experience maintaining, inspecting, repairing and installing irrigation systems.

·  Valid driver's license.

·  Successfully obtain Backflow Assembly General Tester and Reclaimed Site Tester certifications within one year of hire as a condition of probation.

An equivalent combination of education and relevant-level experience that has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of this position may be considered with the exception of the above certifications.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

·  One year experience leading two or more staff members in the repair and maintenance of irrigation systems.

·  Previous experience with the set-up and programming of Oasis Rainmaster Central Control Irrigation Systems.

·  Experience with backflow/reclaim water, and bluestaking.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
Some positions may require a satisfactory criminal background check, Motor Vehicle History Report, Public Records Check and/or physical, drug screen and/or audio exam. Fingerprinting and reference checks may also be conducted prior to an offer of employment. Employment offers are contingent upon successfully passing any of the above requirements.

WHAT HAPPENS NEXT:
Applicants who applied correctly and meet the minimum qualifications will be evaluated on the education and work experience in their employment profile and the responses to their supplemental questions. The highest scoring applicants will then be invited to participate in an Oral Board interview. Upon completion of all examination processes, the highest scoring applicants will be placed on the Civil Service Employment List. An applicant's ranking on the Civil Service list will be based on their final score which will be calculated as 20% of your rating for education and work experience, and 80% of your oral board interview.

Veterans, Native American, or Disability preference points will be added to the final score for those that are placed on the Civil Service Employment List. If you qualify for preference points as outlined in the Employment Profile, you must submit your documentation at the Oral Board interviews. DD 214's must be a copy that indicates characterization of service.
