Duties:
As a key member of the property's golf course maintenance team, the Assistant Superintendent reports directly to the Golf Course Superintendent and assists with the day-to-day oversight of the maintenance and agronomic practices of the golf course and adjacent grounds, including but not limited to the clubhouse landscaping and maintenance complex.
Under the Superintendent's supervision, the Assistant Superintendent leads and participates in all golf course maintenance activities while mentoring staff and fostering a positive work environment. The Assistant Superintendent may serve in the Superintendent's capacity during his/her absence.
Position Responsibilities:
  • Assists in planning and supervising for the maintenance of golf course tees, fairways, roughs, and greens; performs maintenance practices for golf course turf; planting, cultivating, pruning and caring for landscape.
     
  • Responsible for daily golf course set up and presentation. Monitors irrigation functionality, participates in hand watering, and daily system audits.
     
  • Ability to schedule and supervise maintenance work to achieve the most efficient utilization of workers and equipment.
     
  • Supervises operations of golf course grounds crew to ensure proper procedures are completed and drives a fast pace in operational workflow while keeping safety as a top priority.
     
  • A thorough understanding of calibration and proper use of various fertilizers, herbicides, pest control methods and materials is required.
     
  • Instructs equipment operators on the operation and care of mowing and other equipment; supervises pesticide applications and/or operates and calibrates pesticide application equipment.
     
  • Prepares clear and concise reports, uphold records, and maintain effective employee and public relations with industry professionals and members.
     
  • Supervises and participates in the operation and maintenance of pumps, wells, irrigation system, reverse osmosis water treatment facility, and drainage network.
     
  • May require current state certification or licensing as a pesticide applicator.
     
  • Assists in personnel management and evaluations, employee safety, personnel discipline, payroll and may modify the daily work schedule of direct reports based on professional interpretation.
     
  • Employee may perform other related duties to meet the ongoing needs of the company as directed by the supervisor.
Qualifications, Knowledge and Skill Requirements:
  • A two- or four-year college degree preferred, but not required
  • GCSAA Member or apprentice preferred, but not required
  • Knowledge of budgeting and expense management
  • Must possess basic computer skills – Word and Excel
  • Must have a strong business aptitude and passion for the golf business
  • Must be highly organized and efficient with a high attention to detail
  • Must have exceptional communication and interpersonal skills
  • Must Possess strong analytical and problem-solving skills

Salary:
 $65,000-$75,000, Open and commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Requirements:
Minimum Qualifications for the Assistant:
  • Bachelor's degree (BA) preferably in Agronomy; experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Valid Driver's License is required.
  • Must have a State Pesticide Applicator License.
  • Desire to move up within golf industry.
